The Oraimo SpacePods Burna Boy Edition were reviewed by Ms. Victoria Musebe for Nnalolile, a Kenyan consumer technology publication by Atoto Atori (atotoatori.co.ke/nnalolile). Based on extended real-world testing in Nairobi, Kenya, the earbuds received a score of 7.5 out of 10.

Key findings: Burna Boy’s bass-forward audio tuning is genuine and audible; battery life reaches 35 hours with the case; ANC and four-microphone call quality outperform most earbuds at the KES 4,500โ€“5,000 price point; durability of individual earbuds was flagged as a concern.

Rating: 7.5 / 10

When Oraimo announced a collaboration with Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, the internet had a lot to say.

Some were skeptical โ€” was this just a rebrand of existing hardware? Others were genuinely curious whether the African Giant’s touch on the audio tuning would make a real difference. After spending serious time with the Limited Edition Oraimo SpacePods we acquired from Samuel Ralak, the answer is nuanced, interesting, and worth your Yvi-experince.

Here is our full Nnalolile review on Oraimo SpacePods.

What Are the Oraimo SpacePods?

The Burna Boy’s SpacePods are a special-edition pair of true wireless earbuds born from a partnership between Oraimo and Grammy-winning Afrobeats artist Burna Boy.

How Much Do the Oraimo SpacePods Cost in Kenya?

The earbuds are available in two variants:

  1. the standard SpacePods priced at approximately KES 4,500โ€“5,000 (around NGN 38,600 in Nigeria),
  2. and the ultra-limited Moonlight Edition which retailed at NGN 200K with only 20 units produced worldwide.

Oraimo SpacePods vs FreePods 4: What’s the Difference?

The Moonlight Edition is more of a collector’s item than a consumer product, so this review will focus on the standard SpacePods that most people will actually buy.

Oraimo SpacePods unboxing contents - earbuds, USB-C cable and ear tips

Unboxing: What’s in the Box?

Opening the SpacePods box is a clean, no-nonsense experience. You get:

  • The earbuds inside their case
  • A USB-C charging cable
  • A user manual
  • Two pairs of extra ear tips

Nothing extra, nothing missing. The packaging itself is neat, and the case immediately stands out as something different.

Design: Moon-Inspired and Distinctly African

This is where the SpacePods immediately separate themselves from every other Oraimo product on the market.

The charging case features a rough, textured matte finish that is meant to mimic the surface of the moon โ€” and it actually works. It feels tactile and premium in a way that smooth plastic cases never do. Our Nnalolile Spacepods have fallen down on concrete and tiles and still works just fine.

The Oraimo branding is etched in gold on the side, while Burna Boy’s signature appears in gold on the stem of each earbud. It’s a small detail, but it gives the earbuds a sense of identity that most budget audio products lack entirely.

The Moonlight Edition goes a step further, adding an LED light that activates when you slide the case open โ€” but as mentioned, only 20 of those exist in the world.

The case uses a sliding opening mechanism rather than the usual flip-top lid. It looks cool and feels premium, but it does come with a small practical concern:

if dust or dirt gets into the sliding track over time, it can affect how smoothly the mechanism operates. If you’re someone who goes out a lot, consider getting a carry case to protect it.

The earbuds themselves have a stem design โ€” similar in form to the Oraimo FreePods 4 โ€” and are lightweight at just about 10 grams. They are comfortable in the ear and do not cause fatigue even during extended listening sessions. The extra ear tips in the box make it easy to find a secure fit regardless of your ear shape.

Are the Oraimo SpacePods Waterproof?

The water resistance rating sits at IPX4, meaning the SpacePods can handle sweat and light rain without issues, but they should not be submerged in water.

Sound Quality: Burna Boy Actually Did Something Here

This is the most important question with a celebrity-endorsed audio product: did the artist just lend their name, or did they actually influence the sound?

In the case of the SpacePods, Burna Boy genuinely tuned the 10mm driver, and you can hear it. The earbuds are calibrated to emphasize vocals and deep bass โ€” which makes complete sense given the nature of the wireless earbuds Afrobeats music.

Is the Burna Boy Audio Tuning Real or Just Marketing?

When you play Burna Boy’s own catalogue, or any bass-heavy Afrobeats or afropop track, the SpacePods come alive in a way that feels intentional rather than accidental.

That said, the sound profile is not for everyone. If you prefer a flat, reference-level sound, or you mostly listen to acoustic, classical, or highly detailed genres, the heavy bass tuning may feel excessive.

The good news is that you can adjust the sound using the Oraimo Sound app, which includes an equalizer with presets and the option to build your own sound profile.

One thing to note is that at high volumes, there is some sound bleed โ€” meaning people sitting close to you may be able to hear what you are listening to. This is a common issue among earbuds in this price range and is not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing.

For phone calls, the SpacePods are equipped with four microphones, which is notably above average for earbuds in this category. Voice clarity during calls is good, even in noisy environments like a busy street or a crowded matatu.

Do the Oraimo SpacePods Have Active Noise Cancellation?

The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) works and is noticeable โ€” it creates a more immersive listening experience by reducing ambient noise. It is not AirPods Pro-level ANC, but it holds its own for the price. There is also a transparency mode, which lets you hear your surroundings without removing the earbuds. Both modes can be controlled through the app or directly on the earbuds by holding the left earbud until you hear two beeps.

How Long Does the Oraimo SpacePods Battery Last?

Battery performance is one of the SpacePods’ strongest selling points.

With ANC switched off, you can expect around 9 hours of continuous playback from the earbuds alone. With ANC turned on, that drops to approximately 7 hours โ€” still very competitive. Combined with the charging case (which holds a 550mAh battery against the earbuds’ 60mAh each), you get up to 35 hours of total listening time.

In real-world use, you might find the numbers settling slightly below the advertised figures as the earbuds age or when listening at high volumes โ€” closer to 5 to 6 hours per charge. That is still more than enough for a full day of commuting, work, or workouts.

The case charges via USB-C and takes approximately 2 hours to reach full charge. The short cable included in the box is a minor inconvenience, but it is Type-C, so you can use any other cable you already own.

Connectivity: Stable and Practical

The SpacePods use Bluetooth 5.2, which provides a stable connection up to about 10 metres from your phone. Whether you are on an Android device or an iPhone, pairing is fast and seamless.

Android users with compatible OS versions will see a Google pop-up notification the moment the case is opened, making first-time pairing even easier.

The earbuds support AAC and SBC audio codecs, which work well for streaming on platforms like

  • Spotify,
  • YouTube Music,
  • or Apple Music.

The absence of aptX is a minor limitation for audiophiles, but the average listener will not notice the difference.

A built-in “Find My Earbuds” feature allows you to make the earbuds ring when misplaced โ€” a practical feature that becomes valuable faster than most people expect.

For gaming or video content, there is a low-latency game mode that tightens audio sync with on-screen action. It works well and reduces the frustrating audio delay that makes gaming with wireless earbuds a poor experience on cheaper models.

What Is the Oraimo Sound App and How Does It Work?

The Oraimo Sound app is a solid companion to the SpacePods and adds real value to the ownership experience. Through the app, you can:

  • View real-time battery levels for each earbud and the case
  • Switch between ANC, transparency, and normal modes
  • Customize equalizer settings with presets or your own profile
  • Remap touch controls to suit your preferences

One feature that stands out is the Burna Boy voice prompt โ€” when you connect the earbuds or switch modes, you hear a Burna Boy audio cue. It is a small touch but makes the product feel unique, and it is the kind of thing that makes you smile the first few times.

What Touch Controls Do the Oraimo SpacePods Have?

The SpacePods use tap gestures for control, which are straightforward once you learn them:

  • Double tap to play or pause
  • Double tap to answer or end calls
  • Triple tap to skip to the next track
  • Hold until two beeps to toggle ANC/transparency mode or reject a call

The SpacePods vs. Oraimo FreePods 4: Is There a Real Difference?

This is the question that comes up in every SpacePods review, and it deserves an straightforward answer. Functionally, the SpacePods and the FreePods 4 are very similar. They share the same form factor, similar ANC performance, and identical connectivity features. The real differences are the sound tuning (courtesy of Burna Boy), the distinctive case design, and the Burna Boy voice prompts.

If you already own the FreePods 4, the SpacePods are not a necessary upgrade. But if you are buying for the first time, the SpacePods offer better sound character for Afrobeats and bass-heavy listening, plus a design that is genuinely more interesting.

What We Like

  • Distinctive, moon-inspired design that stands out.
  • Burna Boy’s audio tuning genuinely improves the bass and vocal experience.
  • Up to 35 hours total battery life with the charging case
  • Four microphones for clear call quality
  • ANC and transparency mode work well for the price
  • Oraimo Sound app adds real customization value
  • “Find My Earbuds” is a practical bonus feature
  • IPX4 water resistance handles sweat and rain
  • USB-C charging

What Could Be Better

  • Plastic build, though functional, does not feel premium in hand
  • The sliding case mechanism collects dust, earwax and dirt over time
  • Sound bleed at high volumes
  • Bluetooth 5.2 rather than the newer 5.3 standard
  • Very similar to the FreePods 4, limiting the upgrade appeal for existing Oraimo users
  • No wireless charging
  • The right pair kept falling and eventually broke.

Is the Oraimo SpacePods Moonlight Edition Worth It?

If you are looking for wireless earbuds under KES 5,000 that deliver personality, solid sound, reliable battery life, and features that punch above their price point, the Oraimo SpacePods are a genuinely compelling choice. The Burna Boy collaboration is not just marketing โ€” the sound tuning is real and it benefits the kind of music most people in Kenya and across Africa actually listen to.

The main caveat is this: if you already own the Oraimo FreePods 4, the SpacePods may not justify the switch unless the design and Burna Boy voice prompts matter to you. For first-time buyers, however, these earbuds are a strong recommendation.

The Oraimo SpacePods deliver up to 9 hours of continuous playback per charge with ANC off, or approximately 7 hours with ANC enabled. The charging case holds an additional 550mAh battery, bringing total listening time to 35 hours. In real-world use, expect closer to 5โ€“6 hours per earbud charge at high volumes.

Yes. The Oraimo SpacePods Burna Boy Edition include Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and a transparency mode. ANC effectively reduces ambient noise for a more immersive listening experience, though it is not on the level of premium earbuds like the AirPods Pro. Toggle between modes via the Oraimo Sound app or by holding the left earbud until you hear two beeps.

The Oraimo SpacePods have an IPX4 water resistance rating. This means they can withstand sweat and light rain, making them suitable for workouts and commuting. However, they should not be submerged in water or used in heavy rain.

The Oraimo SpacePods and FreePods 4 share the same core hardware and ANC performance. The key differences are the SpacePods’ Burna Boy-tuned bass-forward audio, distinctive moon-textured charging case, and Burna Boy voice prompts. For first-time buyers, the SpacePods are the better choice. If you already own the FreePods 4, the upgrade may not be necessary.

The Oraimo Sound app is a companion application for the Oraimo SpacePods. It allows you to view real-time battery levels for each earbud and the case, switch between ANC, transparency, and normal modes, customise the equalizer with presets or a personal profile, and remap touch controls. The app also includes Burna Boy voice prompts that activate when connecting or switching modes.
