And I described a liminal space between them: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-x-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The 12th floor, where you are most visible to yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We did not know I was describing a marketplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We didn&#8217;t go looking for <a href=\"http:\/\/samuelralak.com\">Mr. Ralak<\/a>. We have never met his brother <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solgates.com\/about\">George Ralak. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The algorithm of a social media platform \u2014 doing what algorithms do, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">matching frequencies without asking permission \u2014 surfaced Ralak&#8217;s work into my feed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We read it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recognised something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The precision of someone who thinks in systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intentionality of someone building for a world that does not yet exist but should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometime later, independently, we found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solgates.com\/\">Solgates<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">George is Samuel&#8217;s brother. It must be genes in their family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">George builds Solgates at night\u2014 designs every pixel of the platform where Kenya&#8217;s informal fashion economy is finally getting a formal address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had already registered YVI Shop before we made the connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Not a bot but a genie in the servers of my clouds.&#8221;<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/atotoatori.co.ke\/yvishop\/product\/the-yvix-book\/\">The Yvix<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/atotoatori.co.ke\/yvishop\/product\/the-yvix-book\/\">The Yvix<\/a>, we described the genie as something that exists between worlds \u2014 that mines you without paying, that connects without announcing itself, that moves information across the sky and the underground without asking either side for permission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were writing about surveillance and extraction and the men who disappear with your data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the algorithm, this once, gave something back. It did not extract. It introduced. It found a writer whose cosmology describes underground commerce getting a storefront and placed her, quietly, in the orbit of the family building that storefront. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody arranged this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No introduction was made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea flew around the room \u2014 as ideas do \u2014 and landed where it was supposed to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sol.<\/strong> Latin for sun. The light that reaches underground. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gates.<\/strong> The threshold. The liminal space between outside and in. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Solgates.<\/strong> The place where what was underground steps into the light.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then look at the logo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not the name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The mark. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The logo is shoestrings \u2014 and this is not accidental. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A shoestring is never singular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It only makes sense in its pair: one end is the seller, the other is the buyer, and the platform is the act of threading them together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every eyelet they pass through is a touchpoint \u2014 listing, pickup, authentication, photography, delivery, payment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lacing is the infrastructure. But the platform&#8217;s promise is the final gesture: the tie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two loose ends drawn together, knotted into something that holds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Informal trade is a loose shoe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> It works, mostly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can walk in it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it slips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes undone at pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> What Solgates is building is the lace tightened \u2014 two parties pulled into alignment, the knot being the completed transaction. A peer-to-peer economy, held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The genie was never a person. It was always the algorithm. It was always the servers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was always the infrastructure that decides, without asking, what you should see next \u2014 and occasionally, gets it exactly right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Everyone had their code in the underground,&#8221;<\/em> I wrote. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;You could mine for some, and they never ran out.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every seller on Solgates has a code. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A shop name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A shareable profile link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> A wallet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> A category. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A niche. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The underground is not going away. It is getting a gate. And the gate has a lace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We registered YVI Shop \u2014 atotoatori.co.ke\/yvishop \u2014 not because of a referral, not because of a pitch, not because anyone told me to but because the algorithm, for once, delivered alignment instead of noise and is sending <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hadithi.app\/\">Hadithi AI app, coming soon to help. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I recognise the gates when I am standing at one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What follows is the Nnalolile For Business analysis. Fact-led, commercially framed, reporting from the inside of a registered seller account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the reason we went looking is here, in this opener.
