An Evening of Art and Music
The opening night was electric, with art lovers, collectors, and enthusiasts gathering to celebrate creativity in all its forms. Shari Afrika’s presence brought an extra dimension to the evening – her music embodying the same spirit of cultural celebration that filled the museum halls.
The show featured a curated selection of works from both emerging and established artists across East Africa. Each piece was carefully selected by a jury panel, including the Curator of Art at the National Museums of Kenya, ensuring a diverse and high-quality exhibition.
Supporting Kenyan Culture
The event, organized by the Kenya Museum Society (a not-for-profit organization established in 1970), serves as their main fundraiser. A portion of all artwork sales supports various projects at the National Museums of Kenya, making every purchase a contribution to preserving and promoting Kenya’s rich cultural heritage.
Admission was structured to make art accessible to everyone – Friday evening slots at Ksh 700, while Saturday and Sunday offered entry at just Ksh 100, staying true to the show’s “affordable” promise.
The Intersection of Art and Music
Just as the Affordable Art Show celebrates visual artists, Shari Afrika champions Kenya’s musical heritage. Her work resonates with the same themes found throughout the exhibition – cultural pride, innovation rooted in tradition, and the power of creativity to bring people together.
The bi-annual event (held in May and October) has become a cornerstone of Nairobi’s cultural calendar, much like Shari Afrika has become an essential voice in Kenya’s contemporary music scene.
