A Warm Welcome to Our Supporters

At Atotoatori, we are deeply grateful to every individual, organisation, and community that chooses to partner with us through a gift or donation. Your generosity makes our work possible, and we want to make sure that every contribution is handled with the greatest care, transparency, and integrity.

This Gift Acceptance Policy explains how we receive, evaluate, and manage gifts. It applies to all types of contributions — from cash donations to in-kind goods, sponsorships, and bequests. We hope this document gives you the confidence that your support will truly make a difference.

1. Our Commitment to You

We promise to:

  • Use your gift in line with your intentions and our mission.
  • Be transparent about how gifts are received and managed.
  • Acknowledge your generosity promptly and sincerely.
  • Decline gifts that could compromise our independence or values.
  • Handle all personal and financial information with strict confidentiality.

2. Types of Gifts We Accept

2.1 Cash and Monetary Gifts

Monetary gifts are the most straightforward way to support our work, and they give us the flexibility to direct resources where they are needed most.

We accept monetary gifts in the following ways:

  • Bank transfers to our official organisation account.
  • Mobile money (M-Pesa, Airtel Money) via our published pay bill or till numbers.
  • Cheques made payable to ‘Victoria Ivykaye Musebe’
  • Online giving platforms authorised by Atotoatori.

All monetary donations above KES 50,000 (or equivalent in foreign currency) will be subject to a brief due diligence review before acceptance, in keeping with good governance and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements in Kenya.

We do not accept cash donations handed over in person as a matter of policy. This is to protect both donors and our team.

2.2 In-Kind Donations (Goods and Services)

We welcome in-kind donations — these are physical items or professional services contributed in lieu of cash. They can be incredibly valuable and reduce our operational costs.

Before accepting an in-kind gift, our team will confirm:

  • That the item or service fits a genuine current or planned need.
  • That we have the capacity to store, use, or distribute the donation safely.
  • That the estimated fair market value is reasonable and documented.
  • That the item is in good, usable condition.

Examples of in-kind gifts we commonly receive include stationery and office supplies, computers and electronic equipment, food and hygiene items for programme beneficiaries, and professional services such as legal, accounting, or design work.

We reserve the right to decline in-kind gifts that we cannot use, that would cost more to handle than their value, or that conflict with our mission and values. If we are unable to accept your in-kind donation, we will let you know respectfully and may suggest an alternative way to help.

2.3 Sponsorships

We warmly welcome sponsorships from businesses, foundations, and other organisations that share our values and want to be associated with our work in a meaningful way.

Our approach to sponsorships:

  • All sponsorship agreements must be documented in a written Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or sponsorship agreement signed by both parties.
  • Sponsorships will not influence or compromise the independence of our programmes or communications.
  • We will clearly disclose our sponsors in our annual reports and on our website, unless a sponsor requests anonymity for legitimate reasons.
  • We will not accept sponsorships from organisations whose activities contradict our values or could harm our reputation with the communities we serve.

We are happy to discuss naming rights, co-branding, or other recognition opportunities within the bounds of our values and legal obligations.

Please reach out to us at thebag@atotoatori.co.ke to start a conversation.

2.4 Bequests and Legacy Gifts

Leaving a bequest to Atotoatori is one of the most profound expressions of trust in our mission. We are honoured by every legacy gift entrusted to us, and we take the responsibility very seriously.

A bequest is a gift left in your will or estate plan. We accept the following forms:

  • A specific sum of money.
  • A percentage of your estate.
  • Specific assets such as property, shares, or valuable personal items.
  • The remainder of an estate after other bequests have been fulfilled.

We encourage anyone considering a bequest to inform us in advance — this is entirely optional, but it helps us plan and express our gratitude during your lifetime. We will never pressure you or make our gratitude conditional on being notified.

All bequests will be reviewed by our Board of Directors. We reserve the right to decline a bequest if it comes with conditions that are contrary to our mission or that we cannot fulfil, or if accepting it would expose the organisation to legal or reputational risk.

If you are considering a legacy gift, we would love to speak with you. Please contact our Executive Director at thebag@atotoatori.co.ke.

3. Gifts We May Decline

While we are grateful for all offers of support, there are situations where we may decline a gift. This is not a reflection of ungratefulness but of our commitment to operating with integrity.

We will generally decline gifts that:

  • Come with conditions that restrict our mission or compromise our independence.
  • Are from sources engaged in illegal activities, corruption, or activities harmful to the communities we serve.
  • Could expose us to legal liability or significant reputational risk.
  • We do not have the capacity to manage responsibly.
  • Conflict with Kenyan law or our organisational policies.

Any decision to decline a gift will be made thoughtfully and communicated respectfully to the donor.

4. How We Acknowledge Gifts

Every donor deserves timely and sincere recognition. Here is what you can expect from us:

  • A written acknowledgement (letter or email) will be sent within 14 working days of receiving your gift.
  • All monetary donations will be receipted for your records.
  • In-kind donations above KES 10,000 in value will receive a formal receipt with the estimated fair market value noted.
  • Donors who wish to remain anonymous will have their privacy fully respected.

5. Donor Privacy and Data Protection

We handle your personal information with the utmost respect. Any information you share with us — including your name, contact details, and donation history — will be:

  • Stored securely and accessed only by authorised staff.
  • Used only for the purposes for which it was provided (e.g., sending receipts, impact updates, or stewarding your gift).
  • Never sold or shared with third parties without your explicit consent.

Our data practices are in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. If you have any concerns about how we handle your data, please contact us at dpo@atotoatori.co.ke.

6. Questions and Contact

We know that giving is personal, and we want every interaction with Atotoatori to feel warm and reassuring. If you have questions about this policy, want to discuss a potential gift, or simply want to learn more about how your support will be used, please do not hesitate to reach out.
